General Questions

What is Alerus' routing number?

Alerus’ routing number is 091300159.  This will be the new routing number for all customer accounts beginning September 19, 2022.

Can I bring my Metro Phoenix Bank materials to the branch to be shredded?

Yes, Alerus can help you safely shred all your old Metro Phoenix Bank materials including checks, deposit slips, withdrawal slips, and debit or ATM cards.  Simply stop at our any of our branches with your items.

Account Access

How can I access my accounts online?

Consumer clients can set up a My Alerus account to access Alerus accounts and financial wellness resources.

  • Set up online access to My Alerus — providing online access to your bank accounts, electronic statements, and financial wellness tools.
  • Download the Alerus Mobile Banking app — login with your My Alerus username and password, or register through the app to manage your accounts and make mobile deposits.

Checks

Can I continue to use my existing supply of checks?

Yes, you can continue to use your current supply of Metro Phoenix Bank checks, and deposit and withdrawal slip, for your account. We encourage you to reorder new Alerus checks and to shred any unused Metro Phoenix Bank checks any time after September 19, 2022. Business checks will need to include the Alerus logo and routing number (091300159).

When should I start using my new Alerus checks?

Monday, September 19, 2022; however, you may continue to use your existing supply through December 31, 2022.

Debit Cards and ATMs

My Metro Phoenix Bank debit card was declined, why did this happen?

Metro Phoenix Bank debit cards were deactivated on September 19, 2022. You should activate and begin using your Alerus debit card.

When should I activate my new Alerus debit card?

You may activate your new Alerus debit card as soon as you receive it. Please begin using your new Alerus debit card on Monday, September 19, 2022.

Did my debit card number change?

Yes, your Alerus debit card has a new debit card number. If you previously had automatic payments or purchases set up on your debit card, you need to contact these merchants to let them know of your new account number.

Does Alerus offer free ATMs?

Alerus is a member of MoneyPass® — a nationwide network of surcharge –free ATMs. You can use your debit card at more than 23,000 MoneyPass® ATMs — surcharge free — across the country. Additionally, you can withdraw cash from any ATM (non-Alerus, non- MoneyPass®) and we will rebate the surcharge fee on up to two transactions per monthly statement cycle.*

*ATM rebates only apply to ATM transactions in the U.S. for consumer checking clients and are only applicable to surcharges less than $5.

I have recurring automatic payments or purchases set up on my Metro Phoenix Bank debit card, do I need to do anything?

Yes, please contact these vendors promptly to provide them with your new debit card account information so your transactions will continue to be processed.

How is my Alerus debit card monitored for fraud?

We analyze debit card transactions for suspicious activity which may include a sudden change in locale, a sudden string of costly purchases, or any pattern associated with new fraud trends around the world. If the unlikely event we discover a suspicious transaction, we will contact you immediately using an automated phone call to verify the transaction. Please keep us informed of your best contact number.

How is my liability limited should I experience fraud on my Alerus debit card?

Debit card transactions are protected by Visa’s Zero Liability Policy, which means that you will not be liable for unauthorized transactions using a lost or stolen card so long as you have not been grossly negligent or engaged in fraud. This Zero Liability Policy applies to transactions processed by Visa and does not include ATM transactions, or transactions using your PIN. You are responsible to report any unauthorized use as soon as possible. Alerus follows up on the report and works with you to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.

How can I increase the safety of purchases made with my Alerus debit card when shopping online?

Create your own personal password with Verified by Visa. We strongly encourage all customers to sign up for this free service to improve the security of online payment transactions when shopping through Verified by Visa merchants. Click here to enroll.

If I am traveling outside of the United States, should I notify Alerus?

Yes, please contact our Client Service Center at 800.279.3200 if you are planning any international travel. We will need to know the exact dates of your travel plans, and all countries that you will be visiting. Alerting us of your travel plans will help to avoid restrictions being placed on your card. Keep in mind, we do recommend that you always travel with more the one form of payment (i.e. debit card, credit cards, cash, etc.).

Automatic Payments and Direct Deposit

I currently have automatic payments taken out of my account from various companies; do I need to do anything?

Yes, you need to contact these companies promptly to notify them of your new bank routing number (091300159). These types of electronic transactions include pre-authorized transactions or automatic withdrawals. Alerus will continue to process all your electronic transactions while you are in the process of making this permanent change. All changes regarding your electronic transactions must be completed before December 31, 2022.

I currently have a direct deposit into my account; do I need to do anything?

Yes, you need to contact these companies promptly to notify them of your new bank routing number (091300159). These types of electronic transactions include pre-authorized transactions or automatic withdrawals. Alerus will continue to process all your electronic transactions while you are in the process of making this permanent change. All changes regarding your electronic transactions must be completed before December 31, 2022.

I currently receive Social Security benefits; do I need to do anything?

Yes, please call 800.772.1213 to notify them of your new bank routing number (091300159). Alerus will continue to process these deposits while you are in the process of making this permanent change. All changes to Social Security benefits must be completed before December 31, 2022.

My accounts are set up to automatically transfer money between certain accounts on a specific date, what will happen?

If you worked with Metro Phoenix Bank to set up your automatic scheduled transfers between your accounts, they will continue as normal without interruption.

CDs and IRAs

Has the rate or term changed on my CD?

No, your CD transferred to Alerus at the same rate and terms. Prior to maturity of your CD, Alerus will notify you by mail. Please contact us at that time for available rates and terms.

Has the rate or term changed on my IRA (individual retirement arrangement)?

No, your IRA transferred to Alerus at the same rate and terms. Prior to the maturity of your IRA, Alerus will notify you by mail. Please contact us at that time for available rates and terms.

Loans and Lines of Credit

My loan payment is currently debited from my account, will this change?

No, all loan payments currently set up for automatic withdrawals will continue as normal.

Branch Hours

Did the branch hours at the former Metro Phoenix Bank location change?

No, Alerus will continue to serve you at the Phoenix office within the same hours; additionally, you may now use our Scottsdale office.
