Important Transition Dates

December 9, 2024

  • All Alerus services and fees are now effective on your accounts.
  • All locations will resume regular office hours.
  • Destroy your Home Federal debit card and begin using your new Alerus debit card.
  • Online users can log into their accounts beginning December 9. Click Log In, located in the top right corner, and choose Home Federal Banking from the drop-down menu. Log in using your existing username and password and follow prompts to authenticate your account if requested.
  • Mobile app users will continue using the same app, which will be updated with a new look and name: Alerus formerly Home Federal. If you do not have automatic updates set on your device, you will need to manually update the app.

Checks

 

Can I continue to use my existing supply of checks?

Yes, you can continue to use your current supply of Home Federal checks, and deposit and withdrawal slips for your account. Please contact your banker to re-order Alerus-branded checks as needed.

My business prints our own checks; can I continue to do this?

Yes, businesses may continue to print their own checks. On December 9, 2024, please change the routing number to 091300159 on your checks. Additionally, all checks must be printed with MICR ink.

Debit Cards and ATMs

 

My Home Federal business/consumer debit card was declined. Why did this happen?

On Monday, December 9, 2024, your Home Federal debit card will be deactivated and will no longer work. If you try to use your Home Federal debit card after this time, it will be declined.  Please begin using your new Alerus debit card on Monday, December 9, 2024.

When should I activate my new Alerus Visa® debit card?

You may activate your new Alerus Visa® debit card as soon as you receive it. However, you should continue to use your Home Federal debit card until December 9, 2024.

When should I start using my new Alerus Visa® debit card?

Will my debit card number change?

Yes, you will receive a new debit card number on your Alerus Visa® debit card. If you have recurring payments set up on your Home Federal debit card, please contact the vendor and provide them with your new debit card number beginning Monday, December 9, 2024.

Does Alerus offer free ATMs?

Alerus is a member of MoneyPass® — a nationwide network of surcharge –free ATMs. KwikTrip is included within the MoneyPass network. You can use your debit card at more than 37,000 MoneyPass® ATMs — surcharge free — across the country. Additionally, you can withdraw cash from any ATM (non-Alerus, non- MoneyPass®) and we will rebate the surcharge fee on up to two transactions per monthly statement cycle.*

*ATM rebates only apply to ATM transactions in the U.S. for consumer checking clients and are only applicable to surcharges less than $5.

What is the maximum withdrawal limit per day on my debit card?

The daily ATM withdrawal limit is $505 for consumers and $550 for businesses. Point-of-sale limits are $2,500 for consumers and businesses if “credit” is selected. Please contact our client service center at 800.279.3200 if you feel these limits will not meet your needs.

How is my Alerus debit card monitored for fraud?

We analyze debit card transactions for suspicious activity which may include a sudden change in locale, a sudden string of costly purchases, or any pattern associated with new fraud trends around the world. In the unlikely event we discover a suspicious transaction, we will contact you immediately using an automated phone call to verify the transaction. Please keep us informed of your best contact number.

How is my liability limited should I experience fraud on my Alerus debit card?

Debit card transactions are protected by Visa’s Zero Liability Policy, which means that consumers will not be liable for unauthorized transactions using a lost or stolen card so long as you have not been grossly negligent or engaged in fraud. This Zero Liability Policy applies to transactions processed by Visa and does not include ATM transactions, or transactions using your PIN. You are responsible to report any unauthorized use as soon as possible. Alerus follows up on the report and works with you to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.

What is CardValet® and how can I use it?

CardValet® is a free mobile app that allows you to manage how and when your debit cards are used. You can receive usage alerts, set spending limits, choose when and how your card can be used, and turn your card on/off.

If I am traveling outside of the United States, should I notify Alerus?

Yes, please contact our client service center at 800.279.3200 if you are planning international travel. We will need to know the exact dates of your travel plans, and all countries that you will be visiting. Alerting us of your travel plans will help to avoid restrictions being placed on your card. Keep in mind, we do recommend that you always travel with more the one form of payment (i.e. debit card, credit cards, cash, etc.).

Automatic Payments and Direct Deposits

 

I currently receive Social Security benefits; do I need to do anything?

No. Automatic withdrawals, bill pay, and direct deposits will transfer to Alerus and should continue as normal with no interruption. You may be contacted by Social Security to confirm you have changed banks and request your new bank’s routing number. Alerus’ routing number is 091300159.

I have automatic withdrawals and/or direct deposits set up on my Home Federal account; do I need to do anything?

No, electronic transactions (including pre-authorized transactions, automatic withdrawals, bill pay, and direct deposits) will transfer to Alerus and should continue as normal with no interruption. You may be contacted by payees to confirm you have changed banks and request your new bank’s routing number. Alerus’ routing number is 091300159.

My accounts are set up to automatically transfer money between certain accounts on a specific date; do I need to do anything?

No, if you worked with Home Federal to set up your automatic scheduled transfers between your accounts, they should continue as normal without interruption.

Health Savings Accounts (HSAs)

 

My Home Federal HSA (health savings account) debit card was declined. Why did this happen?

Your Home Federal HSA account access will end at 5 p.m. Central time on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. Your Home Federal HSA debit card will be deactivated and will no longer work at that time. Account access will be temporarily unavailable beginning at 5 p.m. CT on December 3 through December 8, 2024. Please begin using your new Alerus Health Benefits card on Monday, December 9, 2024.  Before you can begin using your new debit card, you will also have to log in online or through the mobile app and accept the terms and conditions.

What should I do if I have an HSA expense between December 4 and December 8?

If you know you will need to use your HSA when account access is temporarily unavailable (from December 3 at 5 p.m. through December 8), you can withdraw funds from your Home Federal HSA prior to December 3, or use another method to pay the HSA-eligible expense and submit the receipt for reimbursement through your Alerus HSA beginning Monday, December 9. Remember to retain all receipts for your records.

CDs and IRAs

 

Will the rate or term change on my CD?

No. Your certificate of deposit (CD) will be transferred to Alerus at the same rate and terms. Prior to maturity of your CD, Alerus will notify you by mail. If your CD is set to automatically renew, the renewal notice will indicate the next maturity date, which will be based on the currently available term that is closest to your original term. Please contact your banker at that time for available rates and terms.

Will the rate or term change on my IRA (individual retirement arrangement)?

No. Your IRA will be transferred to Alerus at the same rate and terms. Prior to maturity of your IRA, Alerus will notify you by mail. Please contact us at that time for available rates and terms.

Loans and Lines of Credit

 

My loan payment is currently debited from my account, will this change?

No. All loan payments currently set up for automatic withdrawals will continue as normal.

Business Banking and Treasury Management

 

Can I continue to use my business banking credit card?

Yes, your Home Federal business credit will continue to work as normal. You will receive an Alerus-branded credit card when your current card expires.

My business uses remote deposit capture. Will there be any changes?

Yes, you will be contacted directly by Deluxe to coordinate migrating to Alerus’ system.

Will credit card processing continue as usual?

Yes, merchant services and card transaction settlements will continue unchanged from Home Federal processes. Alerus’ merchant services portfolio is serviced by Elavon.

How will wire transfers be impacted?

All scheduled or recurring  wire transfers will not be impacted and will continue to be processed as normal. For regular incoming wire transfers, please update the wire instructions to the following on December 9, 2024 (not prior).

Will ACH and check positive pay services be impacted?

ACH and check positive pay services will continue with no change.

Will cut-off times change?

Yes, many cut-off times are later than prior cut-off times. New cut-off times are as follows (all times listed are Central time and will be effective beginning December 9, 2024).

  • Online banking transfers: 7 p.m.
  • Mobile deposits/remote deposit capture deposits: 7 p.m.
  • Incoming/outgoing wire transfers: 4 p.m.
  • ACH origination: 4 p.m.
  • ACH/check positive pay exception decisioning: 1 p.m.

Branch Hours and Services

 

Will the branch hours at Home Federal locations change?

No. All former Home Federal locations will continue to operate at the same hours. Alerus also operates additional branches in the Twin Cities metro, North Dakota, and Arizona.

Can I bring my Home Federal Savings Bank materials to the branch to be shredded?

Yes, Alerus can help you safely shred all your old Home Federal materials including debit or ATM cards. Bring your items to any of our branches and we will be happy to assist you.
